Admitting that Pak army is no match for Indian army, Pakistan’s former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa had proposed to mend ways with India, resolve Kashmir and have a normal relationship. But General Bajwa’s peace plan with India was sabotaged by Imran Khan.

India and Pakistan were working on resolving bilateral issues including Kashmir and were close to do a peace deal after secret talks between Pakistan’s former Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. A number of Pakistan’s senior journalists have made this claim based on what Gen Bajwa revealed to them in 2021. According to these journalists, the peace plan was sabotaged by former PM Imran Khan.

Pakistan’s former Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa had reportedly told two senior Pak journalists-Hamid Mir and Naseem Zehra that ‘Pakistan army is no match for Indian Army. He also admitted that Pakistan lacked the strength to fight against India, according to UK-based Pakistani media ‘UK44’. Gen Bajwa was quoted as saying that the Pak tanks are not in condition to work and there is no diesel for the movements of cannons.

Hamid Mir also claimed that devoid of options, General Bajwa proposed to mend ways with India to have a normal relationship. Two sides were working on a solution for Kashmir as Pakistan realised it lacked ammunition and economic strength to fight India.

Early this year, Pakistani journalist Mohammad Shehzad had claimed that former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan sabotaged a peace move with India proposed by then Army Chief Gen. Qamar Bajwa. Shehzad said that Imran khan was advised by former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi that any peace move with India would alienate the voters.

In an interview with Strat New Global, Pakistani journalist Mohammad Shehzad said,  “General Qamar Javed Bajwa wanted good ties with India. He wanted to do trade with India. He wanted to freeze the Kashmir issue for 20 years. But it was sabotaged by Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Qureshi, (a former Foreign Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party’s Vice-President) told then Prime Minister Imran Khan that if you do that, it would antagonise the voters. So don’t do that”.

Now two more Pakistani journalists- Hamid Mir and Naseem Zehra have made a similar claim as Shehzad. During a TV show they said that Gen Bajwa had in 2021 revealed that he held secret talks with India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and how Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit was planned to Pakistan soon after a ceasefire was announced between the two countries in 2021.

According to Mir, Gen Bajwa admitted that Pakistan “cannot go to war with India”. Citing Gen Bajwa, Mir said that during conference of commanders, Bajwa confessed that the “Pakistan Army is no match for the Indian Army.”

Hamid Mir made the startling revelation that Gen Javed Bajwa had doubts about Pakistan’s military prowess. Pakistani journalists Mir and Naseem Zehra revealed that Pakistan Army Chief told journalists that Pakistan Army was incapable to fight Indian Army.

According to a report in the Dawn, the threat of an “all-out war” with India was one of the security-related issues for Pakistan behind trying to delay elections.

The report was submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan by the defence ministry in a move to delay the General Elections. With the recent revelations by Hamid Mir, questions surround the ability of the Pakistan Army to face Indian soldiers.
