PM Modi’s euphoric Australia tour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Australia has been successful in bringing the two nations closer and in strengthening the bilateral ties. PM Modi stressed, he wants closer bilateral defense and security ties with Australia.  He met his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese at the mega community event in Sydney Olympic Park, where he said, “The basis of historic ties between India and Australia is mutual trust and mutual respect.” The Indian diaspora form an important bridge between the two nations and PM Modi connected with the people of Indian origin in a massive outreach programme.

Speaking at the event, Modi pushed for strengthening the ties between the two countries. He also announced that there has been a consensus on Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement, which will ease travel and work in Australia for India’s skilled professionals. Moreover, both countries have taken steps towards authorising each other’s (educational) degrees, which students will be able to benefit from, said Modi during his speech.

Indian PM Modi and his Australian counterpart Albanese joined together for the stone-laying ceremony of ‘Little India’ Gateway to be built in Harris Park, Parramatta, Sydney, inhabited by a large Indian community. “The Gateway will serve as a symbol of India- Australia friendship and diaspora’s immense contribution to it,” MEA spokesperson Arindam Baghchi said.

During his address, Modi also asserted India’s position in the world as the “force of global good.” He added, “India is always ready to help others whenever there is a disaster”. He also hailed India as the “mother of democracy,” as well as a “bright spot” in the global economy.

In his introductory remarks, Mr Albanese referred to the vast audience and compared PM Modi’s popularity to that of legendary rockstar Bruce Springsteen, who is also known by fans as “The Boss”.

Calling India ‘a key strategic partner’, with which Australia has a ‘rich friendship’,

Albanese mentioned it was his sixth meeting with PM Modi, which shows “how important the relationship between Australia and India is. “India will grow to be the third largest economy in the world. And it’s an important neighbor in the Indian Ocean, that we share. And that is why this is a relationship that we need to invest in,” he said.
