Samudra Paheredar on Overseas Deployment to ASEAN Countries

On the occasion of celebration of 75th India’s independence “Azaadi Ka Amrut Mahotsava” and 30 years of India-ASEAN relations, Indian Coast Guard Ship Samudra Paheredar with integral helicopter is on Overseas Deployment to ASEAN Countries – Singapore, Cambodia & Malaysia from 26 Feb 23. The Special Role Vessel has been deployed to showcase India’s commitments towards Protection of Marine Environment and Pollution Response capability at sea. The deployments aim to promote maritime cooperation with Coast Guards and maritime agencies and to give India’s Puneet Sagar Abhiyan initiative towards marine environment protection, an international outreach.

ICGS Samudra Paheredar made the first port call at Singapore on           01 Mar 23. During the stay, DIG Pramod Pokhriyal, Commanding Officer, ICGS Samudra Paheredar called on H.E. Mr P Kumaran, High Commissioner of India, Executive Director ReCAAP and Dy Commander, Singapore Police Coast Guard. During the meetings, ICG endeavor towards promoting maritime safety, Marine environment Protection while maintaining good order at sea in the region and issues of common maritime concerns including Pollution Response and Search & Rescue including sharing of best practices were discussed.

While projecting the GoI’s initiative Puneet Sagar Abhiyan at global level,     10 NCC cadets alongwith ship’s crew had an interaction with personnel & students of Waterway Watch, Singapore including filed experts. During the interaction, both sides had wide ranging discussions towards emerging climate changes affecting marine environment besides ensuring cleanliness of waterways and sharing on clean seas initiatives.

The engagement of cadets promoted the collective responsibility of protecting the marine environment and inspires the youths to contribute towards noble cause. The endeavor is an important pillar of India’s ‘climate change resolve’, one among the key initiative taken by India to realize the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister during the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference.

Ship’s Officers also visited Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery Against Ships in Asia – Information Sharing System (ReCAAP-ISC) and were briefed on the functioning and importance of ReCAAP ISC as regional initiative for Information Sharing towards combating Piracy and Armed Robbery at Sea. The ship departed Singapore AM 04 Mar and is planned to enter Sihanoukville (Cambodia) on 06 Mar 23.
