World Leaders in G20 Meet heaped praise on India & PM Modi

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who met his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi praised the latter and called him the “most loved” leader in the world. While congratulating him for his accomplishments, PM Meloni asserted that her Indian counterpart has proven that he is a “major leader” in the world.

Notably, the Italian PM was the chief guest and the keynote speaker at the 8th Raisina Dialogue 2023. This year marks the diamond jubilee or 75 years of bilateral relations between India and Italy.

In her remarks at the G20 meeting, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said that the approach of India’s G-20 presidency — “One Earth One Family One Future” — must guide the grouping to face many challenges facing the globe.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong termed India a “critical” and a “great power” without which the Indo-Pacific cannot be reshaped.

“India is a critical power, great power in the region that there is no reshaping of the Indo Pacific without India. We’ve seen that India is a civilisational power that brings a different perspective to some of the challenges of these time,” Wong said at the Raisina Dialogue on Friday.

Describing India as a “highly responsible” and “worthy of a great power” on key matters of global agenda, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Thursday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that PM presented a balanced and responsible position as the president of the G20.

Maldives’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid complimented India for its efforts to help the quake-hit Turkey and Syria. “Indian leadership internationally has been outstanding & that’s for everyone to see how India established itself. In aftermath of earthquake in Turkey, India dispatched rescue personnel immediately. Indian leadership appreciated throughout world,” Shahid said on Friday.

Abdulla Shahid called India a “time-tested friend”, adding that “every emergency  in Maldives, India has been first responder.” He added, “Generosity with which India reached out to us during 1988 mercenary attack, 2004 tsunami, 2015 Male crisis & COVID is amazing. Very grateful for the way India reached out to us”.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair said that the rise of India indicates that the world is in a “new era”. Blair was addressing the gathering at the 2023 Raisina Dialogue. “The rise of India is a pointer that we are in a new era. India’s position today is potentially more powerful than it’s ever been. And India is expected to lead the Global South in a manner like never before.”
